About Waxed Canvas

Waxed canvas has a long history rooted in durability and adventure. Originally developed centuries ago for sailors who needed weather-resistant sails and gear, the fabric later became popular among outdoorsmen, military use, and workwear makers for its rugged strength and ability to withstand the elements. Today, waxed canvas is valued for its timeless look, water resistance, and the unique character it develops with age.

What Makes Waxed Canvas Special

Waxed canvas is tightly woven cotton infused with wax for added durability and weather resistance. Over time, the fabric softens and develops a rich patina unique to how it’s used — every crease, mark, and fade tells a story.

What to Expect Over Time

Natural creasing and wear patterns are normal and part of the fabric’s character

Color variations and “pull-up” marks may appear as the wax shifts with use

The material will soften and become more flexible over time

Water resistance improves with regular maintenance and rewaxing

Waxed Canvas Care

Waxed canvas is low maintenance, but proper care will help it last for years.

Do

Brush off dirt with a soft brush or dry cloth
Spot clean using cold water and mild soap if needed
Air dry naturally
Store in a cool, dry place
Rewax periodically to maintain water resistance and appearance

Don’t

Do not machine wash or machine dry
Do not use hot water
Do not dry clean
Do not iron directly on the fabric
Avoid prolonged exposure to high heat, which can affect the wax coating

Rewaxing

Over time, areas with heavy use may lose some of their wax finish. Rewaxing restores water resistance and refreshes the fabric’s appearance. Simply apply a wax dressing evenly, warm it gently with a hair dryer or heat source to absorb, and allow it to cure before use.

A Material That Ages With You

Unlike synthetic fabrics, waxed canvas is meant to evolve. Scuffs, wrinkles, and weathering aren’t flaws — they’re part of what makes each piece one of a kind. With proper care, waxed canvas products can last for many years and often look better with age.
